Best Family Game - Octochef at Connecticut Festival of Indie Games (CTFIG)

I had an absolute blast at CTFIG this year, and was lucky enough to be able to showcase my latest prototype, Octochef for three whole days!

Octochef is a frantic co-op octopus sandwich making game! Each player embodies one part (well two tentacles) of the great Octopus Chef who has risen from the sea to open up a seaside sandwich shop. Players frantically work together by playing simultaneously against a real-time clock to gather ingredients needed to complete as many sandwiches as possible for time runs out!

If this sounds just crazy enough to work, you’re right! I had a blast playing with everyone who stopped by our booth (huge thank you to everyone who played) and was still raring to play more even after the convention was over. It seems the judges had a good time playing too as Octochef was honored with the ‘Best Family Game’ award!

But I wasn’t the only cooking game win an award. Huge shoutout to designer and fellow Game Makers Guild member Jay Bucciarelli and his game “Burned!” which took home the award for ‘Best Design in Progress!”

None of this would be possible without all the great folks who organized CTFIG and the attendees who took the time to play Octochef and everyone else’s games. You know who you are and you rock! Here’s some shots I took of you fabulous people (including an absolutely wild 8-person game!)

Overall it was an excellent convention, and got to meet a lot of super cool folks. I can’t thank everyone who stopped by to play enough and huge credit to Game Makers Guild for all the support and advice. One last shoutout to my wonderful girlfriend Sarah for helping run the booth and putting up with me for three days! I’m extremely happy with how the game played and can’t wait to see where it goes next! Till then, I’ll try and keep things silly!
